The Environment Is Not The Application
maas is MIM's multi-site application infrastructure and operating environment. It provides the foundation and relationships around a solution. A business workflow, client application or venture platform may run on maas, but it remains an application of maas rather than the definition of maas itself.
What Can Be Combined
Depending on the engagement, MIM can combine:
- business-specific applications and workflows;
- websites and web applications;
- business-domain email and mailbox administration;
- identity and controlled access;
- cloud files, meetings and project collaboration;
- structured data and automation;
- managed infrastructure and remote support; and
- continuing operation and improvement.
This is a capability range, not a promise that every component is included. Discovery establishes the useful combination, technical feasibility and contractual scope.
Multi-Site By Design
maas operates across multiple physical sites. That creates options for placing and connecting services, but it does not mean every service runs at every site or fails over automatically. Topology and resilience are confirmed for the solution being delivered.
Open And Third-Party Technology
maas can use open-source and third-party components where they are suitable. MIM's role is to select, integrate, configure, operate and improve the agreed environment — not to present every underlying component as proprietary technology.
What Gets Confirmed
Before delivery, the engagement should make the following explicit:
- the outcome and accepted scope;
- responsibilities and support boundaries;
- service and data locations;
- identity and access arrangements;
- migration, integration and acceptance needs;
- availability, backup and recovery commitments;
- solution IP, development rights and third-party components; and
- commercials and the route for future change.
